How much does each model cost per second and per clip?
Price list v5 (as of October 21, 2026). Same price in every mode (t2v, i2v, flf, r2v). Clip price = per-second price × seconds, rounded to the cent; your quote shows the exact amount.

n/a: Seedance 2.0 accepts at most 15 seconds. Against the official list price (the official_unit_price field of GET /v1/pricing, October 21, 2026), Seedance 2.5 at 1080p is below it ($0.4618/s vs $0.569/s), while 480p and 720p are above it ($0.1152 vs $0.103, $0.2592 vs $0.231). Seedance 2.0 is also above its official list price ($0.1704 vs $0.151 at 720p, $0.4252 vs $0.374 at 1080p). Live prices: Pricing or GET https://api.makernice.com/v1/pricing (no key needed).
At 720p, a 10-second clip costs $2.59 on 2.5 and $1.70 on 2.0, so 2.5 is about 1.52× the price. At 1080p the same clip is $4.62 against $4.25, about 1.09×. If you render at 1080p anyway, the extra length and references of 2.5 cost little more. At 720p the gap adds up in volume: 100 ten-second clips are $259.20 on 2.5 and $170.40 on 2.0 (billed in exact micro-USD, so totals can differ by a few cents from adding rounded per-clip prices).

When should you choose Seedance 2.5?
- A single take runs longer than 15 seconds. 2.5 accepts up to 30 seconds per clip. On 2.0 you'd generate two clips and join them in an editor.
- You want cheap drafts. 480p is only on 2.5: a 5-second draft is $0.58. Lock the prompt, then re-run at 720p or above.
- The deliverable is 4K. 2.5 has a separately priced 4K output option; ByteDance's official API tops out at 1080p. 2.0 tops out at 1080p on Makernice.
- You need more than 9 reference images to keep a character, product or style consistent. 2.5 takes up to 16.
- You need 9:21 or adaptive framing in text-to-video. Those ratios are only listed for 2.5 in t2v.
When should you stay on Seedance 2.0?
- Your clips fit in 4–15 seconds at 720p. 2.0 costs $0.1704/s against $0.2592/s on 2.5, about a third less for the same clip.
- Your pipeline already works on 2.0. If you don't need the extra length, resolution tiers or references, there's no spec reason to move.
- You render at 1080p and 9 references are enough. The price gap is small at 1080p, so the choice comes down to whether you need 2.5's length or references.
How do you switch from 2.0 to 2.5?
Both models use the same quote → create → poll flow and the same fields. Change model:
{
- "model": "seedance-2.0",
+ "model": "seedance-2.5",
"mode": "t2v",
"prompt": "A lone cyclist crosses a rain-soaked neon street at night, camera tracking alongside.",
"duration": 10,
"resolution": "720p",
"aspect_ratio": "16:9"
}Going the other way (2.5 → 2.0), check your fields first. Seedance 2.0 rejects these with 400 invalid_request before anything is held:
| You send to `seedance-2.0` | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
"duration" above 15 | 400 invalid_request | Split into clips of 15 s or less, or stay on 2.5 |
"resolution": "480p" or "4k" | 400 invalid_request | Use 720p or 1080p |
More than 9 reference_images (r2v) | 400 invalid_request | Trim to 9 |
"aspect_ratio": "9:21" or "adaptive" in t2v | 400 invalid_request | Pick a ratio from the 2.0 list |
Neither model takes generate_audio; audio is always on. Compare the price of both before you commit a batch:
import os, requests
API = "https://api.makernice.com/v1"
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['MAKERNICE_API_KEY']}"}
job = {"mode": "t2v", "prompt": "A lone cyclist crosses a rain-soaked neon street at night.",
"duration": 10, "resolution": "720p", "aspect_ratio": "16:9"}
for model in ("seedance-2.0", "seedance-2.5"):
q = requests.post(f"{API}/generations/quote", json={**job, "model": model}, headers=H).json()
print(model, f"${int(q['amount']) / 1e6:.2f}") # seedance-2.0 $1.70 · seedance-2.5 $2.59Quoting is free and holds nothing. Each quote locks its price for 12 minutes. To run a job, create it with the quote_id and an Idempotency-Key, then poll. Full walkthrough: Seedance 2.5 API tutorial.
What about Seedance 2.0 Fast?
Seedance 2.0 Fast has the same four modes and 4–15 second range as Seedance 2.0, at a fixed 720p and $0.1027 per second (a 10-second clip is $1.03). Use it for drafts and high-volume 720p work, then re-render the keepers on 2.0 or 2.5. Like 2.0, it takes up to 9 reference images.
