MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5: Length, 4K, Audio and Price Compared

Makernice Team ·

Prices as of October 22, 2026 (price list v5).

MiniMax H3 (Hailuo 03) and ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 both turn text, a still image, first and last frames or reference images into video with audio, and both run on the same Makernice API key. Seedance 2.5 is built for long takes: up to 30 seconds, resolutions from 480p up to 4K and 16 reference images. MiniMax H3 caps clips at 15 seconds and upscales its 2K and 4K output from 768p, at a much lower per-second price.

Estimate a batch in the cost calculator →

The gap is largest at the top. Ten seconds of MiniMax H3 at 4K costs $1.92 and ten seconds of Seedance 2.5 at 4K costs $19.55, but they are different tiers: H3's 4K is upscaled from 768p. Makernice also offers a separately priced 4K output option; ByteDance's official API tops out at 1080p (BytePlus ModelArk docs, checked October 22, 2026). Compare like with like: H3 at 768p against Seedance 2.5 at 720p is $0.72 against $2.59 for 10 seconds.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose Seedance 2.5 when a single shot must run longer than 15 seconds, when you need 1080p (H3 has no 1080p tier) or Seedance's up-to-4K tier, when you want 9:21 or adaptive framing in text-to-video, or when you need more than 5 reference images to keep a character or product consistent.
  • Choose MiniMax H3 for short clips (5–15 s) where cost per second matters, for 2K or 4K deliverables where an upscale from 768p is acceptable, or when you want prompt_expansion to let the model enrich a short prompt.
  • Use both: draft on MiniMax H3 at 480p ($0.30 for 5 seconds), then render the final on Seedance 2.5. Each run is quoted first, and failed generations are not charged. Note: if a finished output is blocked by output moderation for a policy violation, the run is still charged. You can contact support for a manual review.

import os, requests

API = "https://api.makernice.com/v1"
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['MAKERNICE_API_KEY']}"}
prompt = "A barista pours latte art in slow motion, warm morning light, close-up."

for job in (
    {"model": "minimax-h3",   "mode": "t2v", "prompt": prompt, "duration": 10, "resolution": "768p", "aspect_ratio": "16:9"},
    {"model": "seedance-2.5", "mode": "t2v", "prompt": prompt, "duration": 10, "resolution": "720p", "aspect_ratio": "16:9"},
):
    q = requests.post(f"{API}/generations/quote", json=job, headers=H).json()
    print(job["model"], f"${int(q['amount']) / 1e6:.2f}")   # minimax-h3 $0.72 · seedance-2.5 $2.59

Quoting is free and holds nothing. To run them, create each generation with its quote_id and an Idempotency-Key, then poll — see the quickstart or the Seedance 2.5 API tutorial. Don't send generate_audio to Seedance 2.5 (400), and keep H3 durations between 5 and 15 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Is MiniMax H3 cheaper than Seedance 2.5?
Per second on Makernice, yes at comparable resolutions on October 21, 2026 (price list v5): MiniMax H3 runs $0.06 to $0.192 per second and Seedance 2.5 runs $0.1152 to $1.955 per second. Is MiniMax H3 4K native?
No. MiniMax H3 generates natively at 480p or 768p. Its 2K and 4K options are upscaled from 768p. If detail matters, compare the output against Seedance 2.5 at 1080p or 4K with the same prompt before you commit to a batch.
Do MiniMax H3 and Seedance 2.5 generate audio?
Yes, both return video with audio. Seedance 2.5 always generates audio and has no switch; sending generate_audio returns 400 invalid_request. MiniMax H3 output includes audio. If you need a silent clip, Wan 3.0 lets you set generate_audio to false.
Which model is better for clips longer than 15 seconds?
Seedance 2.5. It accepts 4 to 30 seconds per clip, while MiniMax H3 accepts 5 to 15 seconds. For a longer sequence on H3, generate several clips and join them in your editor.
