Same request shape on all three tiers: change the model field, and do not send resolution.

What actually differs between the tiers?

Output tier. On Makernice, Kling 3.0 has no resolution field. You choose the tier by model id, and each id returns one tier: 720p for Standard, 1080p for Pro, 4K for 4K. Sending resolution returns 400 invalid_request before anything is held.

Modes. Standard and Pro accept text-to-video (t2v), image-to-video (i2v, send image_url) and first and last frame (flf, send image_url and last_image_url). Kling 3.0 4K accepts text-to-video only. To animate a still at 1080p, use Pro. None of the three accepts reference images; for reference-to-video, see Seedance 2.5 (up to 16 references).

Everything else is shared: duration range, aspect ratios, negative_prompt, the prompt limit and audio.

How much does each tier cost per clip?

Price list v5 (as of October 21, 2026). Same price in every mode a tier supports. Clip price = per-second price × seconds, rounded to the cent; the quote shows the exact amount.

TierPer second5 s10 s15 s
Kling 3.0 Standard (720p)$0.1209$0.60$1.21$1.81
Kling 3.0 Pro (1080p)$0.1612$0.81$1.61$2.42
Kling 3.0 4K$0.5142$2.57$5.14$7.71

Audio is included in every price above; Makernice has no separate audio charge and no audio-off price for Kling. Live: Pricing or GET https://api.makernice.com/v1/pricing (no key needed).

Pro costs 1.33× Standard per second: a 5-second clip is $0.81 vs $0.60; a 10-second clip is $1.61 vs $1.21. 4K is a different budget line: one 10-second 4K clip ($5.14) costs about as much as three 10-second Pro clips ($4.84 in exact micro-USD; $1.61 each as quoted).

A draft-then-final workflow

  • Draft on Standard. Iterate on prompt, framing and negative_prompt at $0.60 per 5-second clip.
  • Final on Pro when the shot needs the 1080p tier, or when it starts from an image or first/last frames.
  • Final on 4K for text-to-video shots that must ship at 4K.

A re-run on a higher tier is a new generation, not an upscale of your draft. Keep the same prompt and negative_prompt; the result can still differ from the draft, and each run is quoted and charged separately. A failed run on any tier isn't charged: the hold is released. Note: if a finished output is blocked by output moderation for a policy violation, the run is still charged. You can contact support for a manual review.

How do you switch tiers in code?

Change model. Don't send resolution.

+   "model": "kling-3.0-pro",
    "mode": "t2v",
    "prompt": "A paper boat drifts down a rain gutter, macro shot, soft afternoon light.",
    "negative_prompt": "blurry, text, watermark",
    "duration": 10,
    "aspect_ratio": "16:9"
  }
import os, requests

API = "https://api.makernice.com/v1"
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['MAKERNICE_API_KEY']}"}
job = {"mode": "t2v", "prompt": "A paper boat drifts down a rain gutter, macro shot, soft afternoon light.",
       "duration": 10, "aspect_ratio": "16:9"}

for model in ("kling-3.0-standard", "kling-3.0-pro", "kling-3.0-4k"):
    q = requests.post(f"{API}/generations/quote", json={**job, "model": model}, headers=H).json()
    print(model, f"${int(q['amount']) / 1e6:.2f}")   # $1.21 · $1.61 · $5.14

Quoting is free and holds nothing; each quote is locked for 12 minutes. Switching an i2v or flf job to kling-3.0-4k returns 400, because 4K is text-to-video only. Create the generation with the quote_id and an Idempotency-Key, then poll (quickstart).

How Kling 3.0 compares with Seedance 2.5

Seedance 2.5 does what Kling 3.0 can't on this API: clips up to 30 seconds, a resolution field from 480p to 4K, and reference-to-video with up to 16 images. Kling 3.0 costs less per second at the 1080p tier: $0.1612/s for Pro against $0.4618/s for Seedance 2.5 at 1080p. Full breakdown: Seedance 2.5 vs Kling 3.0.
