Seedream 5.0 and Qwen3 Image Pricing: Per Image, What Changes It

MakerNice Team · ·

MakerNice prices AI image generation per image: every request produces one image and costs one unit price, with no duration involved. The unit price depends on the model, such as ByteDance's Seedream 5.0 and Seedream 5.0 Pro or Alibaba's Qwen3 Image and Qwen3 Pro Image, plus the mode and resolution. Billing works as for video: quote, create with an idempotency key, hold, then charge or release.

How is an AI image priced on MakerNice?

For images the billing unit is request and the quantity is always 1, because a generation returns exactly one image and there is no field to ask for several. The amount of a request is therefore the unit price of its model, mode and resolution. Do not send duration: it is a video-only field, and image requests that include it are rejected with 400 invalid_request.

Which parameters change the price of a Seedream or Qwen3 image?

Changing any price-affecting field between quote and create returns 422 quote_mismatch, which is the clearest map of what counts:

FieldChanges the price?Note
modelYesEach model has its own unit prices
modeYest2i and i2i are separate price rows
resolutionYes1k and 2k are separate price rows
promptNoEdit it freely after quoting
aspect_ratioNoA creative choice, not a price input
reference_imagesNoRequired in i2i, up to the model limit
ModelPriced resolutionsMax reference images (i2i)
Seedream 5.0 Pro1k, 2k (default 1k)10
Seedream 5.0Fixed 2k, no resolution field14
Qwen3 Image1k, 2k (default 1k)3
Qwen3 Pro Image1k, 2k (default 1k)3

Compared with video, nothing grows with length, so a detailed prompt costs the same as a short one. Spend scales with the number of images and the model and resolution you pick for each. Where a model offers both 1k and 2k, a common pattern is to explore at 1k and render the keepers at 2k.

How do you get a quote for one image?

curl https://api.makernice.com/v1/generations/quote \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MAKERNICE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "qwen3-image",
    "mode": "t2i",
    "prompt": "A ceramic teapot on a linen tablecloth, soft morning window light, shallow depth of field",
    "resolution": "1k",
    "aspect_ratio": "4:3"
  }'

How do you estimate the cost of 300 images?

One image is one generation, and a quote can be used for exactly one generation, so a batch of 300 images is 300 quotes and 300 creates, each with its own Idempotency-Key. For planning, skip the quotes: read the unit prices from GET /v1/pricing and multiply by the number of images in each model, mode and resolution group.

One image, one unit price: a batch costs the price of each image added together.
from decimal import Decimal

# rows maps (model, mode, resolution) to its price row from GET /pricing
plan = [("qwen3-image", "t2i", "1k", 300), ("seedream-5.0-pro", "i2i", "2k", 50)]

total_micro = sum(Decimal(rows[(model, mode, res)]["unit_price"]) * count for model, mode, res, count in plan)
print(total_micro / Decimal(1_000_000))  # US dollars

What should you check before running an image batch?

  • Amounts are micro-USD strings and 1,000,000 equal 1 US dollar, so compute with integers or decimals.
  • Each create holds its amount, so keep the balance above what is in flight; a single top-up is between $15 and $1,000.
  • Failed generations release their hold in full, so retrying them does not double the cost.
  • Your account can only have a limited number of generations in progress; create returns 429 concurrency_limit_reached with a Retry-After header when you hit it.

Live prices are on the Pricing page and in GET /v1/pricing, which needs no key; this post deliberately quotes no figures. For the full method, read the estimate your generation budget post.

Frequently asked questions

Does Seedream 5.0 accept a resolution parameter?
No. Seedream 5.0 is priced at a single fixed 2k tier, and a request that includes resolution is rejected with 400 invalid_request. Seedream 5.0 Pro lets you choose 1k or 2k.
Do more reference images cost more in Qwen3 Image image-to-image?
No. The number of reference_images does not affect the price. Qwen3 Image accepts up to 3 reference images in i2i mode, and the price depends only on the model, mode and resolution.
Can one Qwen3 Pro Image request return several images?
No. Each generation returns exactly one image, and the API has no field for a count. To get four images, quote and create four generations.
Is image-to-image priced the same as text-to-image?
Not necessarily. t2i and i2i are separate rows in GET /v1/pricing, so check both rows for your model and resolution before you plan a batch.
